Mrs John Rolfe of Heacham better known as Pocahontas 2nd edition - Ebook

Legend or truth, Disney film or recorded history, painting in the US Capitol or stained glass window in an English Church, the story of Pocahontas has always been as mystery to many in America and England.  Was she really a Princess? Did she fall in love with the English adventurer, Captain John Smith, and if so, why did she marry someone else? What really happened in Jamestown, Virginia, in 1614, was she a willing converted to Christianity or was she forced into faith? Why did Mr and Mrs Rolfe come to England with their young son, only for Mrs Rolfe to die and be buried in Gravesend?

These are the questions which pupils of Heacham Junior School tried to answer in 2006 working with John Haden and their teachers. Our account of the life of this unique Virginian Indian woman is as close to the truth as possible, with imaginative insights from young people of today. Written primarily for adults with an interest in History, we hope it will be shared with your children and grandchildren. It has been an ARIES best seller in both England and America. The first edition  commemorated the 400th Anniversary of the Founding of Jamestown. This fully revised and enlarged edition is published in 2014 to mark the 400th anniversary of the baptism and marriage of Mrs John Rolfe, better known as Pocahontas.

The American Roots in English Soil (ARIES) Project helps schools and communities in England to research their links with early American history. Barny Books have published twelve of our books written with schools. John Haden is a writer, lecturer and former headteacher.
